PROJECT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
With this projet Enging proposes a solution to solve an industry problem: the reliability and efficient operation of electric motors.
Electric motors and pumps are used worldwide in a great variety of applications and the average loss for their downtime can reach 2.250 € per year. This becomes especially important for motor pumps operating underwater because traditional monitoring techniques cannot be applied.
About 50% of the total worldwide electricity generated is consumed by electric motors. Moreover, today, and following the Industry 4.0 trend, there is a need for advanced monitoring systems that not only allow to improve maintenance, decreasing downtime, but also to aim to energy efficiency improvements.
Taking this background, the project MCM results from another success R&D project, the EMS_LPTCM (2018-2020), focused on the development of a new technology to monitor in real-
time low power distribution transformers.
Based on the knowledge acquired during this project, Enging has developed the MCM, an innovative solution for predictive maintenance of industrial electric motors.

GENERAL OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
- Real-time monitoring of electric motors aiming to predict and prevent possible failures;
- Improve energy efficiency by the analysis of both electric and mechanical parameters;
- Complete monitoring of electric drives used in pumping systems.
TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
- Development of a real-time pump efficiency calculation module and its integration into the existing ePreditMntc monitoring platform for electric motors
- Development of a sensorbox with the required hardware to acquire all signals from the industrial environment
- Installation of the monitoring system in an industrial pilot, monitoring a real pumping system of a client, in order to allow testing and improve it. All data is sent to Enging’s server from where authorization can be given to check the results
MAIN RESULTS
- It has been developed a portable sensorbox that could be easily installed in an industrial facility
- The monitoring system was installed in a clean water industrial client, where it is acquiring both electric data from the motor as well as hydraulic mechanical variables to assess the pump operating conditions
- All variables can be seen in real-time using Enging’s ePreditMntc monitoring platform
- The monitoring system is currently fully operating in a pumping system, monitoring its performance continuously
COMMUNICATION AND DISSEMINATION
The following dissemination activities are planned for this project:
- Attending to international congresses in water sector with the aim to present/discuss the developed work
- Publication of a paper in a journal related to maintenance or water sector Webinar for technology presentation
- A public presentation session with the main results of the project
